How Do I Become a Deputy

Procedures for the Appointment of a Deputy

Anyone above 21 years of age may apply to Court to be appointed as a Deputy. A Deputy is usually a family member or close friend who must act in the best interest of the person who lacks capacity.

The Public Guardian does not assist with the filing of deputyship application nor can she apply on behalf of a prospective Deputy. Please refer to the Family Justice Court’s website for more information on how to apply to be a Deputy.

Applicants may approach the following organisations for guidance for their deputyship application.
