He previously served in the Singapore Civil Defence Force and the Ministry of Home Affairs for 17 years before being elected into Parliament in July 2020.

As Commander of the 3rd SCDF Division, he worked with a team of committed and creative first responders to foster a community more prepared for emergencies. Eric and his team launched a series of programmatic firsts, such as the Falconites’ Challenge 2017, the “Are We Ready?” series of community resilience activities, and the very first edition of TEDxSCDF. For his steadfast service, Eric was conferred the 2017 Pingat Kepujan (Commendation Medal) National Day Award.

For his service to the youth community in Singapore, Eric was conferred the prestigious 2017 Excellent Youth Award and Meritorious Youth Awards (2010, 2012, 2017) by the People’s Association.

A dedicated community leader, Eric was most recently Chairman of the Cairnhill Community Club Management Committee (CCMC), Chairman of the Henderson Dawson Community Sports Club, and members of the Moulmein-Cairnhill and Henderson Dawson Citizens’ Consultative Committee. Eric and his teams initiated a series of innovative community programmes, such as a Public Lecture series at Cairnhill CC, and a vertical marathon event with the Henderson Dawson Community Sports Club. Eric was conferred the prestigious Pingat Bakti Masyarakat (Public Service Medal) National Day Award in 2019 for his service to the community.

A Fulbright grantee, Eric holds a Master’s degree in Communication Management from the Annenberg School of Communication and Journalism, University of Southern California and is an elected member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honour Society for academic excellence. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies from the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information, Nanyang Technological University, which he completed under a Public Service Commission Local Merit Scholarship.
