Our Work
- Child Welfare (CW) is part of the Children in Care (CIC) under the Rehabilitation and Protection Group. We aim to build resilient individuals, strong families, and a caring society by creating a safe and nurturing environment for children,
young persons, and families.
- We authorise Social Service Agencies (SSAs) to conduct adoption-related briefings and adoption suitability assessments for prospective adoptive applicants.
- We act on behalf of the Controller of Immigrations under the Immigration Act 1959 (Chapter 122, Section 55) to issue Dependant's Passes for the purpose of adoption.
- Appointed by the Minister as Guardian-in-Adoption (GIA), we perform duties to safeguard the welfare of any child for whom an adoptive parent is being sought, including a child before the court. The GIA may also exercise any of his or her powers or
perform his or her duties under the ACA subject to the general or special directions of the Minister.
- With the child’s welfare as the key focus, we assess the suitability of prospective adopters and aim to find a good home for every child identified for adoption. We match children under state care to suitable prospective adopters.
