Family Preservation by Safe and Strong Families (SSF) Programme: Practitioner's Resource Guide

Topic(s): Children & Families, Protection from Domestic Violence

The guide introduces readers to Intensive Family Preservation in the Singapore context. Designed with practitioners in mind, this guide is also relevant for professionals, such as educators in tertiary institutions, policymakers, and supervisors.

Developed based on learnings and findings from the two-year Safe and Strong Families (SSF) preservation pilot programme conducted in Singapore, this guide offers good practices and intervention strategies. Readers will uncover knowledge and skills to preserve families and protect children and young persons, and at the same time, learn to care for themselves so that they can be most effective in their intervention with families.

Practitioners will receive tips on preventing and managing occupational hazards such as vicarious trauma, secondary traumatic stress and burnout.

The authors hope that this local literature will be helpful in promoting a better understanding of family preservation as well as inspire readers to contribute towards family preservation work and documentation of such efforts in Singapore.
