Youth GO! Programme

Topic(s): Rehabilitation

Youth GO! Programme (YGP) is modelled after well-established youth outreach services overseas, and has been developed into an outreach, engagement and intervention programme for youths who hang out on the streets, neighbourhoods and local community areas.

The programme supports at-risk youths, aged 12 to 21, so that they can be meaningfully engaged in their studies or work, stay crime-free, develop problem-solving skills, and be resilient individuals.

Youth GO! aims to bring services to hotspots where youths hang out. Youth workers and social workers work with local communities and government agencies to proactively engage youths, and identify and refer youths who need help. Intervention is delivered within the programme that includes case management services and interest-based activities. Youth workers and social workers work with the youths for 12 – 18 months, connecting them with various community resources to help them be meaningfully engaged and become resilient individuals. Beyond working with the youths, services and assistance are also coordinated and rendered to their families.

Care Corner Singapore Ltd and Fei Yue Community Services are the two social service agencies appointed by MSF to run the Youth GO! Programme in geographical areas alongside MSF’s Social Service Offices’ regions. Services include:

1) Information and Referral
Youths who are in distress, facing issues, or require assistance may be referred and/or connected to various community resources for support.

2) Hotspot Referral
Service outreach teams from the agencies engage youths on the streets through activities, groupwork and casework. Information on the location (hotspot), frequency, and time of hangout at point of referral would be helpful to the agencies.
