Celebrating SG Women

About the Movement

The Ministry of Social and Family Development has dedicated 2021 as the Year of Celebrating SG Women.

From our nation’s early years, the progress and achievements of our SG Women – our mothers, sisters, daughters, friends and colleagues – have shaped our homes, schools, workplaces and communities, thus bettering every aspect of our society. Their contributions are integral to our Singapore Story and SG Women are highly valued. We believe more can be done collectively to support, protect and uplift them.

While fundamentals of our legislation and policies remain strong, the Government continues to look ahead to understand the aspirations and needs of our SG Women, and to ensure our laws and policies evolve with time. This is being done through the ongoing Review and Conversations on Singapore Women’s Development, involving both women and men, that will culminate in a White Paper, which will be tabled in Parliament. It will set out policy recommendations with a roadmap for implementation.

With respect as the cornerstone of the rapport between women and men, we invite Singaporeans to come together to celebrate the achievements of our women and support their continued progress. We will also celebrate our men who help to debunk stereotypes, change mindsets and play an active role in supporting and uplifting SG women.

Let’s come together to co-create and catalyse solutions that will shift societal mindsets. Together, we can foster an even more equitable and inclusive society for our women and men. Find out more at go.gov.sg/sgwomen.

Celebrating SG Women Logo

Based on the familiar image of our national flower, Vanda Miss Joaquim, our logo honours SG Women. The three silhouettes embedded in the orchid motif represent our past, present and future SG Women as we look forward to their progression as an integral part of our collective social advancement. The spectrum of shades represent the diversity of our SG Women across generations and all walks of life.

Papilionanthe SG Women, a new orchid hybrid, traces its lineage back to Singapore’s national flower (Vanda Miss Joaquim) and it inherits the characteristics of resilience and ability to produce blooms all year-round from its predecessors.

This orchid was created by the Singapore Botanic Gardens in celebration of the continued progress, contributions and achievements of all SG Women. It was officially named in a ceremony officiated by President Halimah Yacob at the Istana on International Women’s Day on 8 March 2021.
