Care and protection orders issued by the Youth Court

Type: Parliamentary Questions

Topic(s): Rehabilitation

Mr Louis Ng Kok Kwang asked the Minister for Social and Family Development on the number of care and protection orders issued by the Youth Court where parents are required to sign a bond to (i) exercise proper care and guardianship over the child or (ii) attend counselling; (b) what is the number of such bonds breached; and (c) what other actions are taken against parents found to have breached these bonds besides the forfeiture of the bond.

Answer

1          The Youth Court does not track the data requested. Under the law, a breach of the bond terms is an offence, liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $2,000.
