To ask the Minister for Social and Family Development for each year from 2016 to 2017, what is the respective number of children born in Singapore who (i) do not have a father named on their birth certificates and (ii) have a father named on their birth certificates but the parents are not married on or before the date of registration of birth.
Answer
The number of babies born to citizen mothers who were not married to the father at the point of birth registration is 843 in 2016, and 836 in 2017. The 2017 figure is provisional at this point and subject to change. The further breakdown by whether the father's name is reflected in the birth certificate is as follows
